Check the website for your local Department or Bureau of Motor Vehicles; they’ll have all the information you need.

In my state if your younger then 18 you have to take a MSF course, written test, and driving test to get motorcycle license. To get your temps in my state i think you have to wear helmets and gloves, cant ride highways, cant ride at night, and have to complete a written test. I think this applies to scooters also. But im not sure.

Yeah, I live in Illinois too. All moped under 50cc you will need a regular drivers license you will need insurance and plates for it. On a scooter over 50cc you will need a regular driving permit or license. Then you will have to go to the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) to pass their written and driving test. You can get a type L license which is up to 250cc. Or a class M which is a regular motorcycle license which you can use as a scooter license. I am 17 and I found out for people our age it is the same test to get class M as L. So get the M. To pick up your license you will have to either wait until you are 18 and take no test at DMV they will just give it to you. Or if you are in a hurry take the additional written and driving test at the DMV after you have completed MSF. Once you are done with that you can get any motorcycle or scooter you want. Unfortunatly if you want a scooter over 50cc you will have to go through the trouble of learning to ride with a clutch and gears. I think it is worth it.
Have Fun. Be Safe. Wear your helmet.
