moped scooter things?
Posted on 24 November, by under Scooter ChatSo I may get one. I'm 16 already, since March, but I don't get my liscence until November. I'm planning on driving my parents' car in the winter, but is a moped a good idea for warm weather traveling? Short distances of course.
I've heard it gets really good mileage and is convenient. I'd probably use it up until it gets too cold to do anything outside.
Bottom line. Is it worth it?

Scooters are great! If you get one that is 50cc or less, your normal car drivers license will cover the scooter in most states; check with your DMV. Most states have a DMV website to make things easier.
If you buy one, be sure to get a good helmet and a good wheel lock. Scooters are easy to steal and high on the theft list due to the high gas prices these days. Bottom line–yes they are worth it. Do some shopping to get the best deal.

short commutes you bet it is worth it if the pavement is dry in the winter you can use it then too.

Not really. They are fun for things like riding on the beach or cruising around town. They are dangerous because old people can’t hear or see you. Aggressive drivers will treat you like an obstacle. The limitations are endless. Essentially they are fun for a toy but not very practical. Save your money for gas or down payment on a car.

Yeah, if it goes faster than 30mph, you have to get your Motorcycle endorsement, thats all
But as far as fun??

They do get great gas milage, and they are fun, but you have to realize that they are quite dangerous and a hell of a lot less convenient than a car in most ways. Whether or not it makes sense for you is something which you have to analyze and figure out for yourself. There are many questions that you will have to take into account. How urban is it where you live, and what are the roads like? Will you ever want to go somewhere, say on a highway, where you scooter will not take you? Are you going to wish that you had a vehicle that you could carry your friends, dog, groceries, ect. There are many factors to consider.
