Is it safe to drive a moped / scooter in New Zealand?

Planning on touring New Zealand on a moped? (50cc)

Is it considered safe? Do car/truck drivers respect moped drivers?

    It’s pretty safe there and good thing there’s not alot of people to mind too..=) I mean on the road…
