the 50cc scooter I had topped out at 35mph. I heard that anything 50cc or under was restricted to 35mph, but at the same time, I’ve seen many 50cc scooters achieve 45-50mph. while speed is desired, torque is really the most important thing, since torque usually equals better acceleration. this is typically achieved by a combo of the engine and transmission used on the scooter. my scooter had the old chain and sprocket attached to a centrifugal clutch which didnt provide enough torque to get me up the many hills I live in and around. the higher end scooters have whats called a cvt transmission, (Continuously variable transmission) which constantly applies the right amount of torque to the wheel, allowing you to get up some steep hills. as for makes, I would recommend vento scooters. they make some nice scooters both in looks and performance..

HelLO
If you live in U.K and want to ride it at 16 it must be a moped, No more than 50cc and not designed to do more than 31 mph, Or else it does not qualify as a Moped and you will have to wait until you are 17 to ride it. No buts that is the law. Personally I would look for one with gears and full sized.

a 50cc scooter has a top unrestricted speed of about 50mph, a 50cc bike (Aprilia Rs50) has a top speed of about 65mph.
I personally say go for the Peugeot speedfight 2 50, cheap reliable and parts are easy/cheap to get.
Most will set you back about £600-£700 and cost about £250 to insure if you are new to the roads
do note however, if you are 16, the top speed of the scooter can not exceed 50kmh / 31mph. they can go faster, but this would be illegal.
If your 50cc can go 50mph when you get it, there is a good chance it has been de-restricted (this will also invalidate your insurance).
hope that helps

Mine goes about 35 on flat, but on small hills, I get it up to 45 or close to 50. I don’t think I broke 50 yet. If you are looking to just ride around in a city, do your part to keep the environment clean and get a one with a 4 stroke engine, they are cleaner but you can’t really get them much faster than 45 mph. But if you live in the suburbs and want to use the scooter for cruising, then get a 2 stroke because you can install performance mods that some people claim to go over 75, but that is probably a bit of an exaggeration. Hope this helps.

It all depends on make, model and if it’s a two or four stroke. I don’t think they import 2 strokes anymore so chances are your getting a four stroke. For a four stroke, anywhere from 35-45mph. Now if you were able to get a two stroke you could top it out at over 50mph. It also seems the upper end scooters have the restrictions installed limiting them to 30-32mph, removing them will result in the above mentioned speed. However, it then may be classified as a motorcycle rather than a scooter as it has exceeded the 30mph legal limit.
