Can i drive a moped/ scooter?

Posted on 18 November, by under Scooter Chat

i live in Illinois and am in college, but my friend in kentucky just bought a moped/ scooter (he said there was no difference) and drives it to class on the roads. that would be really helpful to have and he said alls you need for it is a regular drivers liscense and no isurance or plates or anything as long as its under 50 cc. Is that true? its kinda hard for me to believe. And is there anything else i can drive without insurance like that? also are u allowed to drive on sidewalks and paths around buildings with that, and just like park it a bikerack. right now my liscense is suspended but ill be getting it back eventually...
ALSO would u be embarrased to drive one of those around campus. im a 19 yr old guy btw.

idk about what kind of license you need to have but i would imagine that you would only need a regular one. i live in hawaii and it is illegal to ride them on shoulders, sidewalks and freeways.if they are not parked in proper parking, they get towed.idk about the insurance, you should check with your state about that because they are motorized and they have to abide by traffic laws and they can cause traffic accident. they dont go too fast so they would be best in a city environment. and i wouldnt be embarassed to drive one.plenty of people do. you should consider getting a bicycle…more eco friendly, great excersise and its also fun……..just my opinion….

    I love mopeds. I wouldnt be embaressed. I’m a 21yr old female.

in CA, it must be plated and insured and registerd and you have to have a license. [Or I couldve just mentioned Cali and not had to say anything] =)

You need insurance on anything that is able to go on a street (CA) And you cant ride on sidewalks.

I wouldnt put it at a bike rack, it wont be there after class.
you should park it in a motercycle parking space, even then, very likely to be stolen, people these days have no morals.
